Fabrizio Santona’s research develops through a continuous investigation of the void as a generative structure.

Emerging from an early, unmediated encounter with matter, his practice moves away from representation and toward a process of opening, where form is not imposed but allowed to emerge. Matter is not treated as a passive support, but as an active field—resistant, unstable, and capable of generating presence.

Across sculpture, installation and performative contexts, Santona constructs conditions rather than objects. The work unfolds through subtraction, repetition and dispersion, often extending beyond the exhibition space into public and non-institutional environments. In these contexts, the artwork becomes a collective field, where absence, memory and human dignity are held within a shared spatial condition.

A central dimension of the practice lies in the relationship between human experience and technological systems. Language, code and structure are translated, displaced and reconfigured, exposing the limits of readability and interpretation. The machine is not approached as a tool, but as a system that generates constraints, gaps and unforeseen possibilities.

Parallel to this, Santona has developed long-term performative and relational practices within psychiatric and rehabilitative contexts, where art operates as a space of encounter rather than representation. Here, the work does not aim to describe or resolve, but to create conditions in which experience can surface without being fixed.

Throughout his practice, the artwork is never conceived as a closed form.
It remains an open structure—
a site in which matter, perception and system continuously interact.

Santona’s work articulates a field where the void is not absence, but the condition through which form, meaning and presence emerge.
